Kākāpō Cam

I’ve been enjoying this application of webcam technology (nod to my friend Quentin) and feeling nostalgic for New Zealand recently. Rakiura is 24-years old and one of ~235 kākāpō alive today. The numbers are changing at the moment as it’s a breeding year. The birds only breed when the Rimu trees produce berries, so it’s a special thing when it happens. And we’ve been rewatching Flight of the Conchords at home.

Cam coffee cams

I’m lucky to work with a great friend who is one of the inventors of the webcam. I spend quite a bit of time on video calls with him - obviously, though a webcam. The original application of the webcam was, as is well known, looking at a coffee pot. Today I was pleased to have an opportunity to use this coffee-related invention to capture a mugshot of its inventor drinking coffee from a mug which commemorates the invention.

Digital Spring Cleaning

I heard this quote from my good friend Quentin. A philosophy with which I wholeheartedly agree: “You know you have reached perfection in design, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to be taken away.” Antoine de Saint-Exupery There’s no such thing as a perfect software project, but the results of my day’s work included a net deletion of 5,359 lines of code - satisfying, in a way.
